"These players deserve to be champions because of their hard work and the adversity they are overcoming. We cannot fail against Sporting. It will be a very important match with a lot at stake for us. Taking three points will be vital."

Top scoring trio in Real Madrid history

Real Madrid's season is being truly spectacular. The team tops the league table and will play the Champions League semifinals, have tallying an impressive 150 goals overall this campaign.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the team's top scorer this year with 49 strikes, only four shy of last season's 53. He is also a magnificent assist-man and Higuain and Benzema benefit most from his passing talents. The French striker has scored 28 goals this season and Higuain reached the centenary as a Madridista last weekend against Osasuna, with a total tally of 24 strikes this season.

The trio formed by Puskas, Di Stefano and Pepillo scored 95 goals in the 1959/60 season and helped the team win its fifth European Cup title that year. Three more attacking trios from the 1950s are amongst the top ten scoring attacking fronts in the history of the club. Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema and Higuain also appear lower on this ranking with the 92 strikes they netted in the 2010/11 season.

C.Ronaldo is the second Madridista with most hat-tricks in La Liga

Cristiano Ronaldo is gradually improving on numbers established by legendary Madridistas. By tallying his 13th with the team against Levante, the Portuguese striker is now the second all-time Real Madrid player with the most hat-tricks behind the 22 netted by Alfredo di Stefano, who needed five years to score 13.

"Goals happen thanks to the efforts of the entire team,"

said Ronaldo after the match on Sunday, trying to play down his feat, but truth is he played a decisive role in the victory with his three strikes. Mourinho himself described the player's third strike as "fantastic" and "incredible."

Ronaldo scored his first hat-trick with the Whites in the penultimate league match of the 2009/10 season against Mallorca (4-1). He tallied three or more strikes in six league games last season, therefore breaking the five hat-trick record of Langara and Romario. Ronaldo has already scored six this season against Rayo Vallecano, Osasuna, Levante, Zaragoza, Malaga and Sevilla. In total, the Golden Boot and Pichichi Trophy winner has 13 hat-tricks under his belt in 85 league games. Ronaldo is currently the fifth player with most hat-tricks in the history of La Liga behind Zarra, Di Stefano, Mundo and Cesar.

Real Madrid finished preparing for today's 20:00 CET derby against Atletico Madrid at the Bernabeu. Jose Mourinho had 21 of his men on hand plus youth teamer Mejias. Arbeloa and Kaka did recovery exercises.

The 19 outfield players did ball work after tackling stretching and warm-up exercises. Marcelo, Di Maria and Carvalho were amongst them; they trained with their teammates yesterday after missing the match against Dinamo Zagreb due to injuries.

Goalkeepers Casillas, Adan and Mejias trained with goalkeeping coach Silvino Louro. They played a foot-volley game to work on controlling the ball with their feet and head. They then proceeded to do specific goalie exercises.

Cristiano Ronaldo was interviewed by Cadena Cope in Lisbon. The player analysed the season, discussed the team's latest signings, and praised Jose Mourinho.

"I wish to win Real Madrid's tenth European Cup title. I know what's happened in Madrid in the last few seasons and I'm sure the city will come to a standstill if we win the Champions League. We should nonetheless avoid obsessing about it. Things turn out better when there's no mental pressure. We'll win the 'Tenth' sooner or later."

"We all expect to win important things next season. I'm sure we will, and so is the coach, because his second season on every other team he's coached was always better than the first, just like this was mine thanks to him and my teammates. We will win titles this season. We have the potential to win it all."

"Mourinho has proved to be the best in every league he's participated in. The best are those who prove to be so in several league championships and he's won every previous one he's played in. He has a strong winning mentality. I'm delighted to work with him and I hope he stays on for a long time. The fact he's now in Madrid working proves he is a great professional. Cristiano Ronaldo : "I have no aim to leave Real Madrid"

Cristiano Ronaldo who scored 40 goals in La Liga, is adamant that the allure of winning bigger titles with Madrid following their Copa del Rey triumph last term will keep him busy at the Bernabeu.

Yet, reports of interest from England, including former club Manchester United continue to surface, but the Ronaldo has no doubt over his future.

"I’m happy at Real. I want to win more titles for the club. I’m settled at Real Madrid and I have no intention of moving," 

Ronaldo admits he wanted much more following failed bids to win La Liga and the Champions League which ended in the hands of rivals Barcelona.

"In relation to goals, it was a special season, without doubt. Scoring 50 odd goals is not easy, and I’m extremely pleased about it. But what I wanted more was titles," he added.

Casillas, Ramos and Ronaldo spend time with injured surviving quake victims

After visiting Town Hall and areas most affected by last week's earthquake, Iker Casillas, SergioRamos, Cristiano Ronaldo and Emilio Butragueño visiting injured survivors at Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital in Murcia. Following a brief visit with Managing Director of Health, Maria Angeles Palacios, the Madridistas made their way from room to room to encourage the patients to stay strong.

"This was Mission Impossible IV," Ronaldo told reporters after the match.

“We knew that this was going to happen. We're used to living with these things. They took away our chance to reach the final in the first-leg at the Bernabeu. Here, no, here it was just the same thing.

"There are lots of things together. What happened at the Bernabeu, what happened today, these are things to think about. Barcelona have a great team but there's something behind it. Cristiano Ronaldo did not hide his frustration after the defeat against Barcelona.

"I don't understand. It is very difficult to play in such circumstances. We had a strategy. It was a 0-0 game and Kaka was warming up so we would attack more in the last 20 minutes. We weren't playing well. but we were playing for a 0-0. This has happened in the last four years. Barcelona have power, a lot of power. The same thing happens every year. It happened against Chelsea, Inter Milan... and now against Real Madrid. I don't know how this can be fixed."

"I am a professional footballer and I like to enjoy myself when I play. But these situations suck all the joy out of you. We're sad because it's the same every year. Mourinho is right. Referees know football. I wish I had the chance to face a team of 10. It is very different to face a team of 11 and a team of 10, especially against Barcelona."

“It is a great joy to have won and more so that I scored the goal to win the Copa [del Rey],” enthused Ronaldo to reporters after the match. “We had gone many years without winning the Cup and we are very happy.

“This is an important trophy and we are enjoying it.”

Ronaldo further praised his compatriot Jose Mourinho, who has won his first major competition as coach of Madrid in his maiden season in Spain.

“Mourinho has made a very positive impact,” said the 26-year-old. “He has helped us a lot and injected us with positive energy, which shows [on the pitch].

"Barcelona played a very good game, but this is the way it goes. The one who scores, wins."
