Top scoring trio in Real Madrid history

Real Madrid's season is being truly spectacular. The team tops the league table and will play the Champions League semifinals, have tallying an impressive 150 goals overall this campaign.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the team's top scorer this year with 49 strikes, only four shy of last season's 53. He is also a magnificent assist-man and Higuain and Benzema benefit most from his passing talents. The French striker has scored 28 goals this season and Higuain reached the centenary as a Madridista last weekend against Osasuna, with a total tally of 24 strikes this season.

The trio formed by Puskas, Di Stefano and Pepillo scored 95 goals in the 1959/60 season and helped the team win its fifth European Cup title that year. Three more attacking trios from the 1950s are amongst the top ten scoring attacking fronts in the history of the club. Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema and Higuain also appear lower on this ranking with the 92 strikes they netted in the 2010/11 season.

Mourinho: "Benzema's goal is from out of this world"

"I like to see that all my men respond. It wasn't an easy game and both Granero and Albiol, who hadn't played for a long time, responded very well. Real Madrid finished preparing for today's 20:00 CET derby against Atletico Madrid at the Bernabeu. Jose Mourinho had 21 of his men on hand plus youth teamer Mejias. Arbeloa and Kaka did recovery exercises.

The 19 outfield players did ball work after tackling stretching and warm-up exercises. Marcelo, Di Maria and Carvalho were amongst them; they trained with their teammates yesterday after missing the match against Dinamo Zagreb due to injuries.

Goalkeepers Casillas, Adan and Mejias trained with goalkeeping coach Silvino Louro. They played a foot-volley game to work on controlling the ball with their feet and head. They then proceeded to do specific goalie exercises.

The Madridista striker scored his 100th official goal against Olympique Lyonnais

Karim Benzema scored his 100th official goal on Tuesday in Real Madrid's Champions League Round of 16 match against none other than the striker's former team, Olympique Lyonnais.

Benzema's first goal dates back to 2005 in a Champions League group stage match against Rosenborg. But he only exploded onto the scene in 2007/08, when he scored 33 times and finished as the Ligue 1's top scorer and won the Bravo Trophy.

Once a Madridista, Benzema's first goal wasn't long in the waiting. The striker scored in Week 3 in Real Madrid's 5-0 win against Xerez. Over the last year and a half, he has scored 22 goals in La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League.

Not only was Benzema's strike against Lyon his 100th official goal, but it was also his fifth in the current edition of the Champions League.

Karim Benzema talked about his hopes and aspirations for the season in an interview with AS.

"I will soon get a chance to show who I really am. I know I'll get chances and I will make good use of them. Two of us strikers compete for a spot this year. We are both goal scorers. There is still a lot of competition on the team and I am anxious to face it." "Mourinho is behind me to correct all my mistakes. He forces you to concentrate 100%. He will tell me anything he thinks if I fail to play as intensely as he wants me to. I have to give my all in every game." "Florentino Perez is a great man. He is fantastic with me and my family. I owe him one. I want to prove everyone, and Florentino in particular, they haven't made a mistake with me. He says he has faith in me and I'm going to pay him back for his confidence on the pitch."

Karim Benzema : We're going to Nou Camp to win

Karim Benzema used to watch the Clasico as a fan in France, and now the striker is on the verge of playing in his first match in the Camp Nou as a Madridista.

"It's a huge match that is watched around the world and it has everyone on their feet. The Clasico I remember most was when Ronaldo lobbed the ball over Valdes."

"I can feel the big day draw closer. We have to keep the ball away from them and attack. If you limit yourself to playing back, you lose. We need to take the initiative and dictate the pace. We must dominate possession. We cannot be afraid and must take risks from the start."

"Xavi and Iniesta dictate how the team plays and the rhythm of the game."

"I want to play well and score or provide an assist. The two are equally important. I can play as a striker or just behind the striker. But wen I play in a more advanced position, Pellegrini wants me to move around more, to make my way to the wings and to do what I do best when I get the ball."

Zinedine Zidane and Real Madrid joined forces once again with the European Leukodystrophy Association (ELA). The legendary player inaugurated ELA-Spain in 2005 with friiend and former team-mate Raul Gonzalez. Several children who have the illness visited Valdebebas on Friday and had a chance to meet their idols. In the next couple of days they will take the Stadium Tour with Zidane and will see the banner of their association held by the players on the pitch right before the Real Madrid-Valladolid match kicks-off.

Real Madrid will use their match against Valladolid to spread awareness on the fight against leukodystrophy.

Children with the illness witll see the game live at the stadium with ELA Founding Chairman Guy Alba and ELA-Spain Chairman Bienvenido Corral.

Lukodystrophy destroys myelin (a layer that covers up nerves) in the central nervous system and gradually paralizes vital biological processes. It is currently incurable. Ever since its foundation in 1992, the ELA has tried to make people aware of the illness, to support families of people who suffer from it and to finance scientific research. The ELA has founded 317 research programmes, spending a total of 25.2 millon euros.

The Association's fight is beginnig to get its first results; current research results bring hope and allow scientists to believe that the illness may be treated in the future.
